Requiescat in Pace

Program Notes

Writing for solo instruments is often challenging for me because of my propensity toward chord-driven aesthetics. My solution in Requiescat in Pace was to turn the chordal structure into the melody. As a vague reflection of the soul’s transition from Earth to Heaven, the chords in this piece are open-sounding, based on fifths. They start low and hesitant, and end by ascending to a light harmonic.
