Program Notes

Falling Out, a duet for bassoon and clarinet, became a programmatic piece only after it was written. The intended theme was to be the journey of a unison melody, which slowly pulls apart, vertically and linearly, until it collapses back into the unison again. The title was inspired later by the musical terminology I had chosen, such as “stubbornly arguing,” and “gradually smoother, but still mad.”
